First miscroscopic edition by Didot.
Performance by the printer Didot who fit the entire text of Cervantes into a single tiny volume. As Brunet remarks, it is not easy to read, and Didot printed a more convenient two-volume edition a few years later. The work was commissioned by Joachim Maria de Ferrer, a Spanish statesman, who said Rius, had this edition distributed to his friends.
Most of the copies encountered are covered in a romantic binding by Simier (various variants).

Counterfeit edition published before the original.
The memoirs from beyond the grave were published partly in episodes in "La Presse" in the last quarter of 1848. The Belgian publisher Tarride (which in 1850 was renamed "Librairie du Panthéon") compiled these episodes to deliver an urgent edition of the first parts of the Mémoires (which corresponds here to the first four parts) only a few weeks before the original in-8 edition by Penaud begins to be printed.
The rest of the publication of the original by Penaud will last until 1850, and Tarride will give a counterfeit edition in the process.
Our copy is full of the twenty volumes published, the first four of which can therefore be considered as a pre-original edition.

Our copy, which probably belonged to Regnier, is enriched with the program printed on silk announcing the premiere performance at the Comédie Française, as well as 7 signed autograph letters addressed to Regnier to congratulate him on the play.
Among the signatories of these letters we find the author Philoxène Boyer or the actress Jeanne Arnould-Plessy.
