This book is the result of his research, which aimed to analyze the different components of human tissues and those of animals. The atlas illustrates more than 1000 crystals observed under the microscope and which are parts of the tissues studied. Out of 26 plates of the atlas are watercolored by hand.

Before Jenner discoveries about vaccine, this medical technique was the only way to prevent an endemic and deadly disease like smallpox. He brings many observations on cancer and he is the first to describe the fracture of the lower end of the radius with posterior tilt published several decades before the description given by Abraham Colles, called the Pouteau-Colles fracture in France (and only Colles fracture outside France).
