"The name of the tuscan physician Angelo Gatti has been closely linked to the practice and promotion of the inoculation for smallpox. Before Jenner discoveries about vaccine, this medical technique was the only way to prevent an endemic and deadly disease like smallpox. In the second half of the XVIIIth century the inoculation for smallpox became a discussed practice, able to involved in the debate not only the scientific community but also the social and political milieu. Gatti arrived in Paris in 1760 where he became famous thanks to his masterpieces: the Réflexions sur les préjugés qui s'opposent au progrès et à la perfection de l'inoculation (1764) and the Nouvelles réflexions sur la pratique de l'inoculation (1767). "

Claude Pouteau (1724-1775) was a surgeon who practiced at the Hôtel-Dieu in Lyon.
He brings many observations on cancer and he is the first to describe the fracture of the lower end of the radius with posterior tilt published several decades before the description given by Abraham Colles, called the Pouteau-Colles fracture in France (and only Colles fracture outside France).

Johann Friedrich Meckel (1781-1833) was a German anatomist and, with Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, one of the founder of teratology (science of anomalies in the anatomical, congenital and hereditary organization of living beings).
He has largely been forgotten, but his name is well-known in the medical world as he remains attached to Meckel's diverticulum.

The well-known DeTrey & Company, was and still is specialized in the manufacture of dental prostheses and dental equipment. It was one of the largest specialist manufactures in this field, and contributed to the research and development of the Dental Art of the time.
