Marc-Antoine Jullien (1775-1848), is a revolutionary, man of letters and French pedagogue. Following a disagreement with Napoleon in 1810, he had to leave France for Italy.
During his trip, he met the Swiss pedagogue Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi in Yverdon.
The author became the founder of a new method of innovative education and popularizes the writings of Pestalozzi. He is one of the promoters of mutual education.

His new theory of education is scrupulously described in this very detailed book.

Pretty little menus illustrated by Robida for an unidentified restaurant (or association) which was located at 11, rue Scribe (near the Opéra Garnier). Each side offers a different comic scene: an alchemist, a Spanish cooking "all in oil" ... of lamp, and an anarchist preparing bombs icy ... On the back the same illustration on all the menus of a character carrying a bottle of Prussic acid.

At the beginning of the XIXth century, imprisonment gradually imposed itself as a justice penalty whereas previously the prison was mainly a temporary place of confinement before the execution of the real punishment (banishment, torture, execution ... ). Following the Enlightenment (Beccaria) or thinkers like Tocqueville and Bentham, Alauzet then asked the question of the staggering of sentences and the organization of prisons. He also examines the systems of Lucas, Auburn and Faucher.
