"The discourse on art was born in France during the reign of Louis XIV thanks to two antagonistic figures: Félibien (1619-1709) and Roger de Piles (1635-1709). The latter became the major theoretician of color in the quarrel which opposed Rubenists and Poussinists during the last three decades of the 17th century." (trad. from Bernard Teyssèdre, "Roger de Piles and The debate on color, 1957)
De Piles supports Rubens by arguing that color is the major subject of painting and must come before drawing.

Monumental impression for the description of the Moulins bridge built from 1754 to 1762 under the direction of Louis de Règemortes, engineer of bridges and roads: Plans, sections, elevations and maps.
Note the impressive fifth plank measuring over 1.80m long representing the foundations of the bridge.
"The work that has illustrated his name is the construction of the Moulins bridge, for which several unsuccessful attempts had been made in the previous century. The success of the project drawn up by Louis de Règemorte is mainly due to the establishment of a general masonry base. , strongly defended against the action of water, with unsinkable longitudinal levees attached to the wedges, to prevent the disastrous effect of scouring and flooding which had brought the ruin of the works undertaken on the same point from 1679 to 1689. " Tarbé de Saint-Hardouin (Biographical notes on the engineers of the bridges and roads since the creation of the body, in 1716, until our days, Baudry, 1884)
The now "Pont Règemortes" still crosses the Allier more than 250 years more late proof of the success of the engineer.

Cham, pseudonym of Amédée de Noé (1818-1879), is a French illustrator, caricaturist and playwright known and recognized.
This book is atypical and at the opposite of those received in schools!
It is a collection of very humorous illustrations, which are about the principles of Physics. With its simple, fast, sharp and precise style, Cham manages to make readers laugh about serious areas in the different fields of this science.
BOUTMY, Emile || RIBOT, Alexandre.
Cours d'Histoire Constitutionnelle donnés à l'École libre des sciences politiques.
s.l., s.n., 1886.

Original manuscripts.
Rare and well-preserved set of two constitutional history courses given at Sciences Po Paris in 1886 by the founders of the school: Emile Boutmy and Alexandre Ribot.
Perfectly readable and careful manuscripts by a writer who will remain unknown who was a listener of Emile Boutmy's course on the Constitution of the United States in May-June 1886 and the course on the French Constitution since 1789 given by Alexandre Ribot in February-March 1886.
Created by Emile Boutmy in the aftermath of the 1870 defeat and the Paris Commune, the École Libre des Sciences Politiques (now known as Sciences-Po) aimed to teach political science as a positive science. She will form the elite of french politicians until today.
1886 was the last year in which Boutmy gave his course on the Constitution of the United States; we know a transcription of it in the notes left by Pierre de Coubertin who was also a listener of this course the same year. A comparison of the transcription of Coubertin's notes and our manuscript leads us to believe that our collection is more faithful (seems to be a word for word transcription) of Boutmy's teaching.
Alexandre Ribot's course on the French Constitution (second part of a more extensive course on European constitutions) leaves an important part on the birth of the Third Republic whose constitutional laws were only passed in 1875.

Songbook for the Ombres a Polytechnique evening in 1898
"Les Ombres" is a traditional performance by the École Polytechnique, the first edition of which was given in 1818. It involved the projection of satirical chineese shadows onto scenes from the life of the school and its teachers. Each projection was accompanied by a song, most often irreverent, written and sung by the students.
Uncommon document, witness to the traditions and jargon of this prestigious school.
