A marvel of landscape art that has now disappeared, the Labyrinth of Versailles was commissioned from Le Notre by Louis XIV.
Labyrinth of hornbeams opening onto squares decorated with fountains whose lead subjects were multicolored.
Each fountain was inspired by Aesop's Fables.
The work reveals in 41 engravings, the plan of the labyrinth and each of the fountains with for each, the verses and the morals which had inspired them.

Two beautiful mythological scenes engraved on the same copper by Johann Jacob von Sandrart (1655-1698) after drawings by his uncle Joachim Sandrart (1606-1688).

The first scene representing Neptune lying, surrounded by Loves players.
The second features a group of young women who have captured Cupid and his quiver. Some flogged him, pulling his hair and one stepping forward to kill him.

In it, he explores the principles of geometry applied to perspective, in particular the deformations of images that are only correctly revealed from a certain angle or through a mirror.
La Perspective Curieuse is a major work in the history of visual perception and art, influencing both artists and scientists of its time.
The discussion in the fourth part is particularly famous for being the first reference to the law of refraction developed by Descartes that same year.

Pierio Valeriano (1477-1558) was inspired by the works left by Horapollo, the only ancient source on Egyptian hieroglyphics, to compose a book of allegorical emblems where the hieroglyphs mingle with biblical references and memories of classical antiquity.

The Dodechedron of Fortune, named after the twelve-sided die used to cast oracles and the medieval goddess of Fortune, was a divinatory game, now called “The Magic Mirror of Jehan de Meung.”
This game consisted of choosing questions about the future and finding their answers using a special die, whose twelve faces correspond to the twelve houses of the sky and offer a number that refers to a horoscope or advice.

The two fold-out tables, each 12 by 12 squares, show the signs of the zodiac on the abscissa and the planets on the ordinate, each corresponding to a number on the die. Each square refers to an oracle in the book.
