Third part alone of the four parts that appeared over a period of almost thirty years. The first part appeared in 1831, the last in 1858. The subject, on the border between natural history and philosophy, consists in applying a rigorous analogy between animal forms and human psychology. In the tradition of Lavater, Gall and the physiognomists, the physical configuration of the organ is revealing of personal dispositions. Da Gama Machado was a commander and gentleman of the Royal House of the King of Portugal; he lived surrounded by his birds, which he cherished.

Description of a temple, probably early Christian, in Cestas by the local scholar Abbot Jaubert.
The latter identifies it as a temple dedicated to the cult of Cybele. This temple was attached to the old church of Cestas, which has now disappeared. The engravings by Abbot Jaubert representing the plan of the building and the bas-reliefs are therefore the only archaeological traces that remain to us.

A work with bold and polemical theories for the 18th century, on the marriage of priests, which was condemned to be destroyed by laceration and burned by a judgment of the Court of Parliament in 1758. The author, a canon of Etampes, was forced to retract in 1760 and was imprisoned.

This treatise was intended, in the author's mind, to replace his theory of the four movements, the publication of which had met with little success.
He describes in a more practical way the phase of Harmony, in fact, it is the Rule (in the monastic sense) of his Phalanstery. Man is total there: cultivating his vegetable garden in the morning, composing poems in the afternoon, craftsman in the evening. Life is very finely regulated there: constant activity, dietetics (which he calls Gastrosophy), sexuality. Among the Fourierists, the union is free, each lustful preference accepted, but taxonomic passion of the moment, each sexual taste is classified, subdivided, organized... Fourier thus defines seventy-six types of cuckolding...
With the Supplement to the foreword paginated LXV-LXXX which is found in few copies.

Of Guadeloupean origin, Charles Dain (1812-1871) led the campaign for the abolition of slavery, although he himself was a slave owner. He sat in the Constituent Assembly in 1848.

The Annales de la Société des soi-disans Jésuites is a collection of historical acts, documents, and letters that was published between 1764 and 1771 to denounce the place of the Order of Jesuits in French society. The collection was produced by the Abbé Jean-Antoine Gazaignes and consists of five volumes (Last is missing in our copy). It contains information about the founding of the order, its doctrines, its activities, and its various political movements. The Annales are of great importance for understanding the history of the Jesuits and their influence on French society. Gabriel Bonnot de Mably was Condillac's brother, although today less known than his parent, his innovative work of political philosophy places him among the precursors of what will become communism. In particular, he proposed to limit land ownership rights.

Beautiful facsimile reproduction of the famous manuscript of Villard de Honnecourt, a 13th-century architect.
This manuscript, preserved at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, is a valuable source on the construction techniques and know-how of medieval builders. It contains sketches and notes that reveal the empirical and artistic approach to Gothic architecture. Jean-Baptiste-Antoine Lassus, architect and fervent defender of the revival of medieval art in the 19th century, annotated this publication, which was then finalized by Alfred Darcel after his death.

Rare document on the creation of the colony of Condé-sur-Vesgre.

The societary colony of Condé-sur-Vesgre was the first Fourierist achievement and the only one in which Fourier participated. The initiative was launched in the second half of 1832 by Alexandre Baudet-Dulary with the support of the Fourierist newspaper "Le Phalanstère" which would relay the calls for funds.

Our publication presents the project for the creation of the society that would manage the colony. It presents the statutes of the future society and an approximate estimate of the expenses. The designated managers are Devay, Just Muiron, Victor Considérant, and A. Transon. The role assigned to Charles Fourier is "director of the societary mechanism".

This society will be created during the year 1833 with the installation of the first settlers on the site of Condé-sur-Vesgre. The colony, after many difficulties, is still in activity almost two hundred years later.
