First editions.
Charles de Calonne (1734-1802) was Necker's successor as finance minister to Louis XVI between 1784 and 1787.
After his resignation, the former minister fell out of favor and faced many attacks on his administration and France's growing deficit. In this book, he explained his defence to the king, facing five charges against the subjects of acquisitions and exchanges, operations in the revision of currencies, funds from the royal treasury provided clandestinely to support the "agiotage" (financial speculative practice), extensions of loans, and abuses of authority and other abuses of authority of all kinds.
The second book, published shortly afterwards, is the sequel in which Calonne provides many in-depth insights.

Second edition, completely revised by the author.
French politician, François Cantagrel is a disciple of Charles Fourier for whom he founded the newspaper La Phalange.
He was an active propagandist of Fourierism thanks, among other things, to his Fou du Palais Royal, published in 1841 and which the Fourierists had to republish in 1845, which had a huge impact. This humorous work certainly steered more men towards Fourierism than Fourier's own works.

Deciphering of the hieroglyphic language by Champollion.
The Rosetta Stone, brought back by the Napoleonic expeditions to Egypt, gave the same text in three different languages, it is the key that gave Champollion the understanding of the language of the ancient Egyptians.
After laying down the principle of phonetic writing in 1822 in his Letter to M. Dacier, he continued his work and his demonstrations until he had an intimate knowledge of this language: "It is a complex system, a writing at the same time figurative, symbolic and phonetic, in the same text, the same sentence, I would almost say in the same word"
His Precis of the hieroglyphic system gives us with many examples an unprecedented understanding of hieroglyphs, thus cutting the grass under the feet of his opponents (and competitors) such as Thomas Young.
The discovery of Champollion suddenly gave humanity access to three millennia of its history.

Completely revised and expanded edition of the custom of Burgundy by Chasseneuz.
A book on the origins of French law.
Chasseneuz's comments on customary law in Burgundy draw heavily on Roman law. Following him, other authors will revise local customary rights, such as Bouhier with the Customs of Berry. At the beginning of the 16th century, all customary law was thus reviewed and put back in order, constituting a legal corpus which would serve as the basis for the great reform of the Napoleonic Code.
"The appearance of his book was an event in the legal world. Its success soon exceeded the limits of Burgundy. [...] We saluted, in its author, the man who, the first, had just introduced the light of Roman law in the chaos of local customs." PIGNOT, "A Jurisconsult in the Sixteenth Century: Barthélemy de Chasseneuz", Larose, 1880
Beautiful Gothic print on two columns embellished with initials and 7 full-page engravings of inheritance trees. The completely revised edition of 1534 appears with a sequel, dated 1535 and with its own title page, listing all the additions to the Commentaries of Chasseneuz published in 1517 and 1528.

Led by Aragon, the committee brings together many great French authors.
This publication in the aftermath of the war aims, through the example of an “ordinary” French village, at the abuses committed by the Nazis. Thus, Plomion in Aisne, where on August 31, 1944 fourteen inhabitants aged 16 to 72 were shot by the SS.
The photos of the victims are accompanied by a text by Henry Malherbe and a poem by Paul Claudel. Amusing send-off from one of the most fervent communist writers to the one who was on the front page of Le Figaro for decades.

Two important works from Condorcet.
1- "Essai sur la Constitution" : Scarce fist edition of the Condorcet's "most important political work" (Badinter Condorcet).
It is one of the fundamental texts in French political history and "the most important book of Constitutional Law that was published at that time and even since" (Allengry, Condorcet guide de la Révolution Française).
In this work, Condorcet is one of the first authors to claim the right to vote for women.
2. "Sur la nécessité de faire ratifier la Constitution par les citoyens", is less known but important, since Condorcet studies the question of whether, and under what conditions, a nation may confer upon an assembly the power to give it a constitution or to accept it on its behalf.

Landmark in economic theory.
Cournot is considered a pioneer in mathematical economics. He was among the first to formalize economic theories using mathematical equations.
He proposed basing economic theory not on elementary algebra but on the branch of analysis dealing with arbitrary functions, subject to certain conditions.
His work focused on a theory of price equilibrium in a free market.
Though largely ignored in his time, his research on equilibria between two producers, now known as "Cournot equilibria," would later be generalized under the term "Nash equilibria" or "Nash-Cournot equilibria," earning John Forbes Nash the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1994.
Cournot's work is bound after the following:
