Third part alone of the four parts that appeared over a period of almost thirty years. The first part appeared in 1831, the last in 1858. The subject, on the border between natural history and philosophy, consists in applying a rigorous analogy between animal forms and human psychology. In the tradition of Lavater, Gall and the physiognomists, the physical configuration of the organ is revealing of personal dispositions. Da Gama Machado was a commander and gentleman of the Royal House of the King of Portugal; he lived surrounded by his birds, which he cherished.

Zoé Charlotte de Gamond (1806-1854), Belgian feminist, disciple of Charles Fourier whose work she became a commentator. In September 1841, she bought a monastery in Burgundy, the famous abbey of Cîteaux, in order to establish a phalanstery there, the theoretical aspect of which she had imagined in this work. In particular, she gave a feminist tint to the theories of Charles Fourier. Fourier's "Harmony" was supposed to regenerate the condition of Women. This phalanstery, which operated until 1846, was a financial disaster. The De Gamond couple, thus ruined, returned to Brussels where they led a life of embarrassment and deprivation.

The Annales de la Société des soi-disans Jésuites is a collection of historical acts, documents, and letters that was published between 1764 and 1771 to denounce the place of the Order of Jesuits in French society. The collection was produced by the Abbé Jean-Antoine Gazaignes and consists of five volumes (Last is missing in our copy). It contains information about the founding of the order, its doctrines, its activities, and its various political movements. The Annales are of great importance for understanding the history of the Jesuits and their influence on French society. The Annales have also served as the basis for many historical works and studies on the Jesuits and their role in French history.

William Godwin (1756-1836) is a British philosopher, precursor of anarchism and inspiration for the utilitarian movement.
This book is part of the controversy between Godwin and Malthus about the principle of population. For Malthus, the mathematical growth of the human population occurs at a rate greater than that of access to resources.
For Godwin, the "improvement of Man" (in fact technical progress) will make it possible to compensate for population growth, he says:
"if the earth, in all its habitable parts, could be made as fertile as China, it would be enough to feed a population of nine thousand million people" (volume II, p.212).

A debate that is still current.

Set of two books to be used in the history of the Seven Years' War.

The first in the original edition is a collection of letters between the Marshals of Belle-Isle (1684-1761) and of Contades (1704-1793) which we learn were "found among the papers of Monsieur de Contades after the battle from Minden ".
The Battle of Minden was a decisive French defeat in the Seven Years' War. Despite a clear numerical superiority the French led by Contades bowed to the Anglo-Prussians. The Seven Years' War will mark the beginning of the loss of influence of France in Europe and the beginning of English hegemony (which will be definitively recorded at Waterloo).

Critical work of the Examen de ingenios para las sciencias by Juan Huarte de San Juan, which had been, in 1575, the first modern treatise to study the relationship between psychology and physiology.
Guibelet offers an in-depth analysis and a refutation of some of Huarte's theses, thus entering into the intellectual debates of the time on the nature of intelligence and human aptitudes. This text constitutes a valuable contribution to the history of ideas and to the study of the reception of psychological and medical theories at the dawn of the 17th century.

One of the most beautiful illustrations of the Bible in the eighteenth century.
This remarkable iconograph of the Bible in which Gérard Hoet and Bernard Picart mainly participated includes 214 full-page plates (29 double-page), the legend of which is written in Hebrew, English, German, Latin, French and Dutch.
The two frontispieces are captioned in French, the rest of the text is written in Dutch. Each chapter ends with a beautiful engraved cul-de-lampe.
This set of prints was first started by Picart in 1720 with the assistance of the Dutch painter Gérard Hoet, for what would undoubtedly become the pinnacle of the "Figures of the Bible". The Figures of the Bible are collections of engravings, which represent or signify Scripture through cycles of prints covering the entire Bible, a single Testament, or even a single biblical book. It is a genre that became popular with printing in the sixteenth century.
Pierre de Hondt, recovers the engravings of Picart, who with his multilingual legends already had a desire for European distribution, to accompany texts by Pierre Saurin (cf. Brunet). Everything is newly decorated with typographic ornaments.
