1200 €
First edition.
Book revised and published by Diderot from a manuscript by Ferdinando Galiani, in which the latter expresses reservations about the free trade in grain adopted by the edicts of 1763 and 1764.
Galiani is indeed opposed to the export of wheat outside France, while French regions may still experience periods of famine.
This is one of the first criticisms of nascent economic liberalism.
What will be worth to him to be strongly attacked by the spirit of time, Turgot judging that the step of Galiani is representative of the stubborn refusal, and obscurantist, of the scientific novelty.

ome hypotheses suggest that it was Diderot who had this Amsterdam edition published, whereas Madame de Caylus's manuscript had been passed from hand to hand for several years. However, a few rare copies have a 22-page notebook with a preface by Voltaire which is absent from our copy [cf. Bengesco].

"The work that has illustrated his name is the construction of the Moulins bridge, for which several unsuccessful attempts had been made in the previous century. The success of the project drawn up by Louis de Règemorte is mainly due to the establishment of a general masonry base. , strongly defended against the action of water, with unsinkable longitudinal levees attached to the wedges, to prevent the disastrous effect of scouring and flooding which had brought the ruin of the works undertaken on the same point from 1679 to 1689. " Tarbé de Saint-Hardouin (Biographical notes on the engineers of the bridges and roads since the creation of the body, in 1716, until our days, Baudry, 1884)

Inventor of the term "strategy", it is with the Theory of War (1777) that Maizeroy completed his work of theorization, because although History is much less present there, it is a manual intended for instruction of young officers on elementary tactics and major tactics.
In this work he states that the use of thin or deep order is a choice belonging to the general and thus gives more flexibility to systems on the battlefield.
