Large 4to (295x233 mm), (4)-59-(1) pages and 55 plates. Lack of one expected plate ("Le dernier regret" by alophe). 24 plates added at the end of volume (review "L'artiste" and the Salon of 1836, 1839, 1840, 1841, 1843). binding : Contemporary quarter sheep, gilt flat spine lettered in gilt. One corner chipped. Rubbings on spine and one lack of leather. Minor foxing.

The Salon was the official art exhibition of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Between 1748 and 1890, it was arguably the greatest annual or biennial art event in the Western world.
