Large 4to (300x232 mm), (6)-iv-(84) pages and 41 plates. Complete. binding : Contemporary quarter sheep, flat spine lettered in gilt. Headcap chipped and two tears on the other one. Upper joint splitting on few centimeters. A inkstain on the front cover. Minor foxing.
First edition.
Preface by Baron Taylor (1789-1879, French playwright, precursor of the romantic movement, art collector and philanthropist).
The Salon was the official art exhibition of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Between 1748 and 1890, it was arguably the greatest annual or biennial art event in the Western world.
