"An important work in 301 sections in wihch Stahl comments critically on a wide variety of chemical and physical phenomena and experiments. There is a long discussion on phlogiston and its supposed properties (section 38, pp.55-64)... This work, published just three years before he died, is interresting because it summarizes Stahl's theories toward the end of his life" (Neville).

MACQUER.
Elémens de chymie-théorique.
Paris, Jean-Thomas Herissant, 1753.

Macquer played a very important part in the development of industrial chemistry in France. He was much the most influencial phlogistonist of his day and died (1784) without changing his views, the revelations of Lavoisier notwithstanding. In this works, he shows that he believed fire to have been an element and he was one of the last scientists of importance to have supported the earth, air, fire and water theory. In his later works, he attempted to compromise with the results of Lavoisier's matchless experimental work and the theories of Stahl and his school.
This Elements of Theory is one of the most influencial chemical works of the mid-eighteenth century and a classic in the development of the chemical text.

Murat. 1807.

In the present work Fourcroy summed up with remarkable lucidity the principles of antiphlogistic chemistry. "As a guide for the student attending a course of lectures, or for the older chemist who was, perhaps, uncertain of the anti-phlogistic theory, Philosophie chimique was without a rival."Smeaton, p. 194. The book was a great international success and there were translations into Danish, Dutch, Greek, Polish, Russian, and Swedish.
This second edition is printed by the famous Dupont de Nemours in a larger type and on a superior paper than the first and is signed by the author on the verso of the title-page (Duveen).
Murat, published at Montpellier by A. Seguin in 1807. Rare treatise.
