Manuscript of the late eighteenth, early nineteenth century of elementary mathematics.
Well written, it deals with arithmetic (operations on numbers and fractions), divisibility, greatest common divisor, proportion, complex numbers (operations on weight).
We also found it a very interesting chapter on the new measures, conversions francs / pounds and the introduction of the metric system. The definition of the franc corresponds to that of 15 August 1795.

"In the eighteenth century proofs were given of Descartes' Rule of Signs' which its discoverer had enunciated without demonstration.
G. W. Leibniz had pointed out a line of proof, but did not actually give it.
In 1675 Jean Prestet (1648-1690) publihed at Paris in his Elemens des mathematiques a proof." (Cajori) (page 368)
First proof of the Descartes' Rule of Signs'. Prestet afterwards acknowledged to be insufficient.
We had to wait 1828 and the work of Gauss to have a correct proof.
Fine copy.

Bion had an instrumentation workshop in Paris.
He seems to have made globes, sundials, mathematical instruments, and mechanical machines with equal accuracy.
In the "Traité de la construction.." he gives a fairly complete list of instruments normally constructed during the first quarter of the eighteenth century.
His treatise was more for the user and the amateur than for the manufacturer. (DSB)
