Photo DUPUYTREN, Guillaume.

Original edition.
Thesis presented by Guillaume Dupuytren for the competition for the chair of operative medicine. He won the competition and thus became professor of operative medicine at the Hotel Dieu in 1812.
First surgeon of the king under Charles X and Louis-Philippe. He was elected member of the Academy of Sciences in 1825.

He performed and perfected almost all surgical operations. We owe him several new operations in the 19th century, notably the healing of the intestine in strangulated hernias.
Dupuytren leaves his name to the "Fracture of Dupuytren" and to the "disease of Dupuytren".
