First edition.
Seduced by the ideas of Isidore Isou, Maurice Lemaitre became one of the important figures of Lettrisme.
In this book he deplores the popularization of Dadaism and argues that the Lettrists are the only ones able to represent Dadaism and surrealism.
Sending of Maurice Lemaitre to Man Ray on the first guard.
We join;
Note on a piece of paper tablecloth by Philippe Soupault asking Man Ray to make a photographic portrait of Maurice Lemaitre.
Philippe Soupault is the founder with André Breton of the surrealist movement, this note thus puts in relation three great figures of this intellectual movement.

Book attributed to the politician Antoine-Joseph Thorillon (1742-?) Who, under the pseudonym of Tho. Mineau de La Mistringue self-proclaimed perpetual secretary of drinkers of Passy waters, leaves us with a singular book recounting real or fantasized episodes taking place around the fountains of mineral waters.
It is classified by Edmond de Goncourt in "The House of an artist" among the writers with the wild imagination: "Macedonia bizarre, where it is in turn question of the fairy Bellie, of the development of the memory thanks to the internal sense of the ashy substance, the game of crow, the advantages of celibacy, a passage of a convoy of galley slaves singing litanies of the Virgin, the distribution of the territorial tax ".
Book which we would have liked to prove that it inspired the Buveurs d'eau and Hydropathes of literary Boheme.

We are in January 1941, Claude Levi-Strauss after his demobilization is appointed as professor in Montpellier but is dismissed at the end of 1940 following the racial laws of Vichy. He then seeks to recover his works that have remained at the Museum and for this, asks the recipient to be put in touch with Louise Alcan:
"I, of course, left my functions last month and my great concern is the recovery of all my scientific documents, currently deposited at the Museum, and without which it is impossible for me to return to work".
Louise Alcan (spelled Alkan in the letter) is then a member of the resistance network of the Musée de L'Homme, she will be deported at the end of the war to Auschwitz.
A few months later Claude Levi-Strauss will go into exile in New York.

Berzelius is the first to propose a system of classification of the elements by designating them by an abbreviation of their Latin name. It is the system of naming atoms that we always use (Au for Gold for example). He also proposed in his System of mineralogy in 1818 a beginning of classification of simple and compound elements. In this article he modifies his system taking into account Mitscherlich's recent work on isomorphic crystals and proposes a new classification according to the electronegativity of the elements.
We find in the same volume an article by Antoine Becquerel, "Investigations on the electrical effects of contact produced in changes of temperature, and application which can be made to the determination of high temperatures".

Set of two books to be used in the history of the Seven Years' War.
The first in the original edition is a collection of letters between the Marshals of Belle-Isle (1684-1761) and of Contades (1704-1793) which we learn were "found among the papers of Monsieur de Contades after the battle from Minden ".
The Battle of Minden was a decisive French defeat in the Seven Years' War. Despite a clear numerical superiority the French led by Contades bowed to the Anglo-Prussians. The Seven Years' War will mark the beginning of the loss of influence of France in Europe and the beginning of English hegemony (which will be definitively recorded at Waterloo).

"Monge is regarded as the creator of descriptive geometry, for 'it ws he who elegantly and methodically converted the group of graphical procedures used by practionners into a general uniform technique based on simple an rigorous reasoning and methods ...Monge's systematic use of cylindrical projection and, more discreetly, that of central projection, opened the way to the parallel creation of projective and modern geometry' (DSB). It was primarily through Monge's teachings, both at the ephemeral École de l'an III and the École Polytechnique, that descriptive geometry, analytical geometry and differential geometry were established as special fields".(Norman).
