"The customs, the characters, all the main events, the only ones worthy of passing down to posterity, are preserved; the order of the times are respected. The details suppressed, changed, embellished, are those which, according to Solis, haven't any basis other than uncertainty or conjecture. " (extract from the preface).

He leaves us this important treatise on mathematics for the use of actuaries in which he notably devotes a chapter to the Theory of deviations.
He describes there before Wilhelm Lexis what will be known as the "Lexis Ratio".
The law of deviations subsequently developed by Bachelier will be one of the bases of financial mathematics.

This harsh pamphlet was published as part of a political campaign against Necker, then Finance Minister of Louis XVI, in the spring of 1781. It ended with the minister's resignation on May 19th1781.

This fictional letter features Louis-Antoine Caraccioli and D'Alembert, questioning the reasons for Necker's popularity. It is traditionally attributed to Philippe-Henri de Grimoard (Barbier and BNF).

Embarked as a cabin boy on the Port au Prince which trades between America and the Pacific Islands. Mariner landed in 1806 at Lifuka, Tonga. Attacked by local populations, most of the crew lost their lives. William Mariner was, however, taken in by the future king of Tonga: Finau Ulukalala. An ethnologist before his time, he learned their language and was interested in their customs. Adopted by Finau to replace his deceased son, William Mariner took the name Toki'Ukamea as well as several wives who gave him twelve children in four years. Back in England his testimony remains one of the main sources of knowledge of the pre-Christian society of Tonga.

Organized by the leading members of the Sig colony and chaired by administrator Jules Duval, the event featured speeches from various prominent figures. Subsequent sections detail the events of April 9th, election day, when Algiers' Fourierists deliberated on the statutes of a Phalansterian circle aimed at uniting them and selecting a representative for the National Assembly. The booklet concludes with an extensive treatise on the organization of labor within the Agricultural Union and the colony's governing statutes.

In 1736, at the end of a war of succession which opposed French and Russian interests, Stanislas I, King of Poland, abdicated.
It is therefore as a free-speaking citizen that he writes his observations on the government of Poland.
Prince philosopher he writes in his preface:
"[our ancestors] established a fair balance between the power of Majesty, & the rights of liberty. They claimed that our Kings by the Majesty of their character, could contain liberty to prevent it from going as far as license, and that liberty, by the authority of our constitutions, could repress the ambition of our kings, if it ever led them to despotism. This salutary order no longer exists.".

Memoir on the financial scandal that affected Antoine Lavalette, a Jesuit missionary priest in Martinique. To restore the treasury of the Jesuit mission in Martinique, he set up some commercial operations which failed and was heavily indebted to the sieurs Lioncy and Gouffre, merchants from Marseille. They obtained justice from the tribunal of Aix, but the Parliament of Paris took up the case and used it as a pretext to proclaim the banishment of the Society of Jesus from France in 1762.
