Vladimir Bernstein (1888-1960) était un mathématicien russe puis français, Privat-Docent à l'Université Royale de Milan, spécialiste de la théorie des fonctions. Ses Leçons sur les Progrès Récents de la Théorie des Séries de Dirichlet, professées au Collège de France et préfacées par le célèbre mathématicien Jacques Hadamard, constituent un ouvrage important sur cette branche de l'analyse mathématique.
Les séries de Dirichlet sont fondamentales en théorie analytique des nombres et ont des liens étroits avec les fonctions zêta.
