The publication of Necker's "Compte-rendu au roi" (Report to the King) in 1781, intended to inform Louis XVI about the state of France's finances, provoked many controversies against the minister.
At the opposite, this book is one of the few texts in which the author, here Pierre-Augustin Robert de Saint-Vincent (1725-1799, French magistrate), defended the Minister of Finance. He wished to demonstrate point by point the good management of the deficit by Necker.
