Antoine Augustin Parmentier (1737-1813) whom we know above all for his work for the promotion of the potato was above all a military pharmacist. He was, from 1796 to 1813, general inspector of the health service and as such had this pharmaceutical code published.
"As this pharmacopoeia must be daily in the hands of the pupils of the hospices, it seemed useful that they had constantly under the eyes, in the medical matter and in the pharmaceutical observations which it contains, a summary of the most essential knowledge in the exercise of their functions ". (extract from the warning).
