Émile Borel (1871-1956) was a leading French mathematician and politician, known for his fundamental contributions to measure theory, probability (law of large numbers), and game theory. He was honorary director of the École Normale Supérieure, professor at the Faculty of Sciences in Paris, and a member of the Institut. This work, "Space and Time," is an example of his forays into the philosophy of science, addressing concepts then at the heart of scientific debates following the theory of relativity.
