First edition.

Eugène Desmarest (1816-1890), a former student of the École Polytechnique, was a French mathematician and entomologist. His work Traité de l'Analyse Indéterminée du Second Degré à Deux Inconnues (Treatise on Indeterminate Analysis of the Second Degree with Two Unknowns) is an important contribution to number theory, a branch of pure mathematics. The book focuses on second-degree Diophantine equations, a classical subject of arithmetic, and their application to finding primitive roots.
