Pierre Gauja (1866-1937), an engineer and editorial secretary of the Academy of Sciences, wrote this historical work on the financial foundations and prizes awarded by the Academy. The book covers the period from 1881 to 1915 and is prefaced by the perpetual secretaries of the time, Alfred Lacroix and Émile Picard, two major figures in French science.
