Charles Hermite (1822–1901) was a French mathematician. His work focused primarily on number theory, quadratic forms, orthogonal polynomials, elliptic functions, and differential equations. Several mathematical entities are named Hermitian in his honor. He is also known as one of the first to use matrices.
His works were collected and published after his death by his son-in-law Émile Picard.
