Bartsch was Kepler’s son-in-law. In the year following Kepler’s death in 1630, Bartsch decided to publish a more affordable edition of the logarithms from the Tabulae Rudolphinae, but publication ceased due to financial problems (Caspar records only one copy, defective, of this edition). The French mathematician Johann Caspar Eisenschmidt brought out this edition in 1700, and provided a new introduction.
