Second edition.
Gabriel Lamé (1795-1870) was a French mathematician and physicist, professor at the École Polytechnique and a member of the Académie des sciences. His Cours de physique de l'École Polytechnique (Physics Course of the École Polytechnique) is a fundamental textbook for higher physics education in the 19th century. Volume II is particularly interesting as it covers acoustics and the physical theory of light, areas where Lamé himself made significant contributions, notably in elasticity theory and wave propagation. This course reflects the rigor and breadth of knowledge required for students of the École Polytechnique during this period.
