Percey F. Smith (1867-1956) and William Raymond Longley (1880-1946) were American mathematicians and professors at Yale University. Their work is recognized in the teaching of higher mathematics. This work, translated into French, is a didactic manual on the fundamental principles of rational mechanics, a branch of theoretical mechanics that uses mathematics to describe the motion of bodies.
