Henri Villat (1879-1972) was a leading French mathematician and fluid mechanician, a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences, and professor at the Faculty of Sciences of Paris. His Leçons sur la théorie des tourbillons (Lessons on Vortex Theory), published under the auspices of the Institute of Fluid Mechanics of the University of Paris (created by the Ministry of Air), is a fundamental work in fluid dynamics. Villat was a recognized specialist in vortex phenomena, essential for aeronautics and hydrodynamics.
