Legendre wanted to succeed in demonstrating the fifth postulate of Euclid, he finally published a complete treatise on geometry which marked the teaching of Euclidean geometry for almost a century.
In parallel to the edition of this book, Legendre worked on the measurement of the meter of which he presented the stallion in 1798.
