A collection of 919 sonnets describing famous men, from the Greeks and Romans to barbarians, kings, and heretics, ending with a portrait, in 105 sonnets, of the French Icarus, who was none other than Marshal Biron, a close friend of Henry IV, and executed as a traitor at the Bastille on July 31, 1602. The dedication to Louis XIII occupies no fewer than 54 sonnets.
