Edmond Bauer (1882-1956) was the deputy director of the Laboratory of Experimental Physics at the Collège de France and a renowned physicist. This work, published in the "Actualités Scientifiques et Industrielles" collection and edited by Paul Langevin, is the proceedings of the Second Synthesis Week on relativity. It presents a critique of the classical notions of ether, space, and time, and an introduction to the kinematics of relativity.
